A series of short narratives based on Francisco Goya's original sequence, Los Caprichos, Pedro Ponce's Stories After Goya approaches ordinary scenes with an air of disturbance, from an angle just off-kilter. Ponce paints even infants as unsettling, and he does so with incredible deftness. The sentences in Stories After Goya lull in their poetic cadence and flawlessly execute economy of language. In small spaces, Ponce weaves haunting narratives with matter-of-fact detail and wondrous magic.
